Ownership and the role of OTE:

The company’s sole shareholder is the Czech Republic. The Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade is entrusted by the government to exercise the shareholders’ rights. OTE therefore plays a vital role in the Czech electricity and gas markets.

Core operations comprise:

• Evaluation and financial settlement of imbalances between contracted and metered supply and consumption of electricity and gas;
• Organisation of the short-term electricity market (day-ahead, intraday);
• Organisation of the short-term gas market (intraday);
• Processing and exchange of data and information related to the electricity and gas markets through the Data Services Centre, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week;
• Administration of support for renewable energy sources;
• Issuance of Guarantees of Origin (GOs) of electricity;
• Administration of the national registry for greenhouse gas emission units and allowances trading;
• Provision of technical support for change of electricity and gas supplier in customer points of delivery;
• Preparation of monthly and annual reports on the electricity market and the gas market in the Czech Republic;
• Preparation of reports on projected electricity and gas consumption and the method of ensuring balanced electricity and gas supply and demand;
• REMIT reporting of trade data.

OTE, a.s., has been actively engaged in professional organisations and their working groups in the Czech Republic and abroad (CIGRE, Europex, Price Coupling of Regions (PCR), Association of Issuing Bodies (AIB), NEMO Committee). The company’s goal is to promote liberalised and transparent electricity and gas markets, participate in formulating rules governing these markets and ensure free and equal access to those markets for all market participants. Following Commission Regulation (EU) No. 2015/1222, OTE, a.s., has been nominated Nominated Electricity Market Operator (NEMO).

Since 2015, OTE offers reporting services for trade data from its short-term markets, as set out in Regulation (EU) No. 1227/2011 on wholesale energy market integrity and transparency (REMIT). In connection with this obligation, OTE, a.s., has been registered by ACER as a Registered Reporting Mechanism (RRM).
